Dr Nina James
Associate Vet
Seeing how much her father Dr Ashley loves being a Vet definitely influenced Dr Nina's decision to become a Vet too. She studied and graduated from Adelaide Uni in 2017 and had been working in the Fleurieu as a Vet until she started at Mount Barker Vet Clinic working alongside her dad beginning of 2024.
Dr Nina has found it amazing to learn how much of being a vet is working, listening and communicating with the pet parents. How important it is to work together as a team, to make the best decisions for their animals. She finds it very rewarding being able to collaborate with pet owners to formulate a medical or management plan for a pet with the person that knows them best and will be doing the day to day care!
Dr Nina finds main challenge about being a vet is the time commitment and mental space it takes up. Vets rarely leave on time and often don’t leave their work at work. She often wakes up in the middle of the night thinking and worrying about patients. She saw her father working hard throughout her childhood as a Vet but he always made it seem much easier than it actually is!

When Dr Nina is not working she loves spending time with her family. Dr Nina and her partner are kept very busy with their toddler, exploring Gran and Pa’s farm, helping in the garden, having fun at the beach and going to many play groups.
